Richmond Regional Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Awarded to Local Community College Students – 9.24.13
Richmond, Va. – The Virginia Community College System announces that seven students in the metro Richmond region have been named as recipients of the Richmond Region Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship made possible by the Moses D. Nunnally, Jr. Charitable Lead Unitrust.
The following first-year community college students were awarded $5,000 each for tuition, books, fees and required supplies for their fields of study:
• Shauneal Bobb, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
• ShaQuan Houchens, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
• Adam Mandelblatt, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
• Aaron Rogerson, John Tyler Community College
• John Tivenan, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
• Kailey Washok, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
• Lyndsay Welch, John Tyler Community College
To be eligible for this new scholarship, students must be enrolled at or planning to attend J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College or John Tyler Community College on a full-time basis, as well as demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding leadership potential. The scholarship is renewable for a second year as long as students maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA at their respective community college.
“All of these exceptional students were very excited to learn that they had been selected for one of the Richmond Region Commonwealth Legacy Scholarships,” said Jennifer Gentry, Executive Director of the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education. “The significant amount of the scholarship will enable the recipients to focus on their education instead of on financial concerns.”
