Kee Troy

Key Troy

Kierra (she prefers “Key”) Troy has a passion for drawing as well as creating colorful and stylish banners, flags, and t-shirts. She’s a graphic artist and she’s good at what she does.

“I’m really talented,” she offered enthusiastically.

Troy is now in her second year at Danville Community College. The 20-year old Atlanta native is ambitious and within five years, she predicts that she’ll be calling the shots from inside the executive suite.

“I see myself sitting in one of these big offices. It’s like me sitting on top of the world, telling everyone else what to do instead of me sitting at the table and doing all the work.”

You might think Troy’s confidence is a bit over the top; a blend of bravado and an under-developed skill set that’s still trying to catch up with its reputation. But you’d be wrong. She’s the real deal and believe it or not, she’s a people person.

“I can get along with just about anybody I’m around.”

During a recent visit to the state capital for Every Day is Community College Day, I asked Troy about her experience at DCC thus far and the faculty there in particular.

“They’ve been very helpful. They let me achieve what I have to. They push me and help me to achieve my goals.”

Troy acknowledges that she’s also saving a great deal of money while enrolled at DCC.

“It helps. Instead of paying for 4-year tuition and classes out of pocket, it helps to go to a 2-year college.”

With only one credit hour to go before she graduates, Troy is eager to begin demonstrating her talent to prospective employers. And she offers some advice to those who would follow in her footsteps.

“Enjoy what you do. And remember, it’s not what you do but how you do it that counts.”'
