Robert Lewis

Robert Lewis is one goal-driven individual.

“I always feel like you have to have a vision for yourself. Part of having a vision is setting goals – having an outcome.”

The 28-year old Lewis who’s from Fredericksburg, VA is wrapping up his final semester at Germanna Community College (GCC). Once he graduates, he plans to transfer to VCU, earn a bachelor’s and eventually maybe even a Ph.D.

“My favorite subject is psychology. The instructors at GCC have a really good team. I’m very pleased with everything I’ve learned.”

While Lewis is passionate about helping others, he concedes that psychology isn’t for everybody.

“I think you have to be very patient and very caring. But I think it’s very purposeful and meaningful because you’re dealing with people and people matter.”

While touring the state capital during a recent trip to Richmond for Every Day is Community College Day, Lewis mulled over what he might say to lawmakers representing the Fredericksburg area. His thoughts pivoted to financial aid.

“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have financial aid. I would urge them to support that and not cut it because there are people behind me. The next generation will need help as well.”

That’s a pretty safe bet given that resources set aside for Virginia’s Community Colleges have been shrinking steadily for the past five years. But Lewis is eager to do his part once he’s out of school and earning money.

“I look forward to giving back. I look to be a person who gives back to the community by helping to create scholarships for others.”'
