LaRhonda didn’t have an easy start. She was adopted from foster care as an infant and then lost her adoptive parents within a few months of each other when she was just a teen. However, her faith, her passion, and her dreams have sustained her, and she wants to use her gifts to help others. She is enrolled in the general studies program at John Tyler Community College, and was selected as an inaugural member of the Great Expectations Student Leadership Group.
“It has always been my passion and my dream to help others, encourage and lead them onto the right path in life.”
LaRhonda, who works 25 hours a week at a nursing home, is also active in her church, where she choreographs and leads others in dance.
“I am the proud leader, instructor, coach of two wonderful dance groups. Not only is it a blessing to lead them in dance, it also blesses me to see them grow in God and in dance. Wherever there is an opportunity to lead and do God’s work, I refuse to pass it up because helping others is what I truly love to do.”
Her Great Expectations coach, Vicky Muensterman, has encouraged LaRhonda, both academically and in her leadership pursuits, “She impresses me with her poise and speaking ability. She is a vivacious young lady with so much optimism and such a positive outlook. I have seen so much growth in her over the course of her time in Great Expectations.”
At the recent Great Expectations Student Leadership Institute, where students participated in a ropes course, LaRhonda was the biggest cheerleader, encouraging others who were afraid of heights, and urging them on with her big smile and winning attitude.
This summer, LaRhonda is seeking to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, and would love to work in a pediatric practice.
