The Office of Professional Development concluded the Fall 2015 semester by hosting the largest peer group conference of the semester. Over 240 VCCS faculty and staff members registered for the joint conference of the Developmental Education, Student Services, Learning Assistance Professionals, and Early Childhood Development peer groups. The conference was held November 13-14, 2015 at the beautiful Founders Inn in Virginia Beach, VA.

This exciting peer group conference brought together professionals from a number of complementary disciplines to share ideas, leverage best practices, and enjoy disciplinary boundary-spanning.

The two-day teaching and learning event saw representation from 22 of our 23 colleges from across the state, and afforded the same coverage and opportunities to all participants, full- and part-time alike.

Laura Symons, principal of the World Community Education Center, presented a thought-provoking opening keynote address, and Joe Agnich, associate professor of mathematics at Northern Virginia Community College, captivated the audience with a breakfast keynote in which he advanced the provocative thesis that all students are developmental education students.
