Workforce WednesdayElevate Virginia Workforce Month was recognized through various programs and events across the state during the month of October – here is a calendar to check out all the great work. In addition, a new workforce brand, Elevate Virginia, was launched, a proclamation was made by the Governor and workforce development professionals from across the state met to hone their skills and improve Virginia’s workforce system. And while all of this seems like a lot – let’s be clear – the work has just begun.

Our focus going forward is outlined in the Governor’s Executive Order 23: Establishing the New Virginia Economy:

• Increasing the amount of credentials that Virginians receiving and aligning these with employer needs

• Help Virginia’s veteran’s transition seamlessly by providing the education and services they need to get back to work quickly

• Match our workers skills to the private sector needs and encourage innovation through entrepreneurship

• Train dislocated, underemployed, and future workers for the available jobs of today, to meet employer demands

The work of Elevate Virginia will continue far past October, through a network of business, education and workforce development partners committed to elevating Virginia’s economic vitality by connecting Virginians to the skills and credentials that lead to jobs and lifelong career progression, and businesses to regional solutions to ensure a skilled and ready workforce today and in the future.'

Amanda Christopher is a graduate of Hollins University and Virginia Commonwealth University. A native of the DC metro area, Amanda worked in public relations for the American Red Cross before joining the Virginia Community College System as the Workforce Communications Coordinator.
